MRS. JOHN H. JOHNSON OF HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP SUFFERED A SEVERE STROKE LAST FRIDAY EVENING ABOUT 7 0'CLOCK, WHEN SHE AND HER HUSBAND WERE BUSY IN THE BARN MILKING.

MR. JOHNSON NOTICED THAT SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED TO HER, RUSHED TO AID HER, AND CARRIED HER ON THE GRASS OUTSIDE. SHE WAS UNABLE TO SEE, AND SPOKE ONLY A FEW WORDS AFTER HER STROKE.

WHOLLY PARALYZED, SHE LIVED FOR SIX HOURS, PASSING AWAY AT ONE A.M. SATURDAY, JULY 17TH.

LUENA WIKAN JOHNSON WAS BORN IN HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP ON JULY 10, 1872, AND IN THAT COMMUNITY SHE HAD LIVED HER ENTIRE LIFE. SHE WAS BAPTIZED AND CONFIRMED BY REV. O. WALDELAND IN HE MARION CHURCH, OF WHICH SHE AND HER PARENTS WERE MEMBERS UNTIL THE HIGHLAND CONGREGATION WAS ORGANIZED IN 1900, FROM WHICH TIME SHE HAS BEEN A LOYAL AND FAITHFUL MEMBER OF SAME.

ON JUNE 12, 1913, SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO JOHN H. JOHNSON. IN 1915 THEY MOVED TO THE FARM 8 1/2 MILES FROM ELKADER, THAT HAS EVER SINCE BEEN THEIR HOME.

SHE LEAVES TO MOURN HER DEATH, HER BEREAVED HUSBAND, JOHN H. JOHNSON, ALSO ONE SISTER, MRS. CHRIS. CHRISTIANSON, AND ONE BROTHER, HALVOR WIKAN, BOTH OF THIS COMMUNITY; ALSO 10 NEICES AND NEPHEWS AND AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY OF FRIENDS WHO WILL SADLY MISS HER KIND AND FRIENDLY HELPFULNESS.

SO ALSO MRS. CLIFFORD LARSON, NEE LOLA WOOD, TO WHOM MRS JOHNSON BECAME AS A MOTHER DURING THE YEARS OF HER TEENS, AND MADE THEIR HOME A TRUE HOME FOR HER DURING HER GIRLHOOD YEARS.

THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM THE HOME AND THE HIGHLAND LUTHERAN CHURCH, WITH INTERMENT IN THE CEMETERY ADJOINING, THE PASTOR, THE REV. G. GUNSTEN, OFFICIATING.

THE LARGE NUMBER OF MOURNERS GATHERED THERE ATTESTED TO THE ESTEEM THE DECEASED ENJOYED IN HER COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS THE LARGE NUMBER OF FLORAL AND IN MEMORIUM GIFTS GIVEN IN HER HONOR.

THE PALLBEARERS WERE SIX NEPHEWS, HAROLD, ROBERT AND LAWRENCE WIKAN, MILLARD OLSON, GEORGE ANDERSON AND EDWARD KUEHL.

OF RELATIVES FROM A DISTANCE ATTENDING THE FUNERAL WERE MR. AND MRS. EMIL JOHNSON AND LILLIAN OF KENYON, MINNESOTA.
