Mrs. JOHN (Mary Albertine Harnack) BRANDT SCHROEDER

Mary Schroeder

Mary Albertine Harnack Schroeder was born October 10, 1871 in Farmersburg township, Clayton county, Iowa, the daughter of Christian Harnack and his wife Dorothea Sass Harnack. She was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa on February 16, 1872. She was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on March 29, 1885, and remained a member of this church until her death on December 5, 1959 at the age of 88 years, one month and 25 days.

She was married to Henry Brandt in December 1888. To this union were born three children, Walter Brandt, formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Velma, Mrs. Lester Neverman of Waukon; and a girl, who died in infancy. Henry Brandt passed away in 1898.

She was married to John Schroeder on December 18, 1906. To this union was born one son, Gilbert Schroeder of Postville. John Schroeder passed away in 1933.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Henry Brandt; her second husband, John Schroeder; one son, Walter Brandt; one infant daughter; two sisters, Mrs. August Dahl of Postville and Mrs. John Krambeer of Postville; and one brother, John Harnack of Postville. She is survived by one daughter, Velma, Mrs. Lester Neverman of Waukon; and one son, Gilbert Schroeder of Postville; two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Joe Schultz of Waukon, and Emma, Mrs. Louis Meyer of Postville; five grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Schutte Funeral Home on Monday, December 7, 1959 at 1:30. Burial was at the Postville Cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating.
