Bernita Schrandt

Bernita Louise Schrandt was born Sept. 10, 1912 in Jefferson twp., near Guttenberg, IA, to parents John and Carrie Loeske Schlake. She died Saturday, Oct. 27, 1990 at the Prairie Health Care Center in Prairie du Chien, WI, where she had been a resident.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. She received her education in Guttenberg school graduating from high school in 1930.

On Sept. 10, 1938 Bernita was married to Louis Schrandt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. The couple farmed in the Clayton Center area until 1952. They moved to a farm near Farmersburg from 1952 until 1960. In 1965 she moved to Monona.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Louis and a twin sister, Bernadine Hagen.

Surviving is her son, Lew Schrandt of Farmersburg; 2 grandchildren, one sister, Faye Vorwald of Garnavillo and one brother, Leighton Schlake of Postville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1990 at Schultz's Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. Brother Bruno officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of services.

Monona- Bernita L. Schrandt, 78, died Saturday at the Prairie du Chien, Wis., Health Care Center after a long illness. Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona. Burial: St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until services Tuesday in the funeral home.

Surviving is a son, Lew of Farmersburg; a sister, Faye Vorwald of Garnavillo; and a brother. Leighton Schlake of Postville.
