Delia Meyer

Delia Bertha Brandt Meyer died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1989, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor where she had been a resident since 1976. She had been in poor health, having suffered a stroke at her home on March 18, 1973.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21, 11 a.m., at Giard United Methodist Church, Giard. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Organist was Mrs. Harry Larson. Burial was in the Giard Cemetery, rural Farmersburg.

She was born July 13, 1902, near Postville to parents Fred and Minnie Meyer Brandt. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Postville. She graduated from Postville High School. After graduation, Delia worked her way through Coe college in Cedar Rapids, graduating with honors. She taught school in eastern Iowa for 4 years.

On December 28, 1927, Delia married Irvin F. Meyer at the Postville Lutheran Church. The couple had 2 sons. The farmed in Giard Township near McGregor.

She was an active member of the Giard United Methodist church. She held many offices in the church and served as a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. She was President of the Women's Association of Christian Service and was honored with a life membership.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Irvin, who died February 26, 1986; 2 brothers, Roland and Harlan Brandt and 2 sisters, Laura Plaht and Clara Haefner.

She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Maruice and Bonnie Meyer, McGregor and Stanley and Jane Meyer, Great Falls, MT; 4 grandchildren, Kenny, Marlys and Sara Meyer and Carol Westerman; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Ewald Brandt, Postville.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Meyer, Marlin Plaht, Robert Brandt, Bruce Meyer, John C. Meyer, Robert Meyer and William Meyer, Jr.
