Clara Larson

Clara Louise was born October 8, 1907, in Marion Township, Clayton County, IA, to Carl and Martha (Sampson) Johnson. She was raised and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.

March 17, 1924, she was united in marriage to Henry E. Larson at Dubuque. Five children were born to this union. Together they farmed in Clayton County. Henry died on January 17, 1960. Clara was a lifelong resident of Clayton County.

After an extended illness, Clara died Wednesday evening, Sept. 20, 1989, at the home of her granddaughter, Theresa Verduyn, Reinbeck, at the age of 81.

Survivors include 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, and four sisters: Mary Larson, Elkader, Hilda Guler, Dubuque, Selma Bailey and Minerva Blockhus, both of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters: Josephine McNulty (1988), Deloris Bilden (1989); three sons: Raymond (1975), Henry Jr. (1982), and Hiram (1988); three stepchildren: Realto (1936), Laverne (1964) and Arthur (1977); one grandson, Harlan Bilden; two brothers: Martin (1979) and Joseph Johnson (1941), and by her parents.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 23, 10:30 a.m. at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. Officiating was Rev. Myron Albertson. Organist was Corrine Landsgard and soloist was Audrey Palmquist.

Casket bearers were: Jerry Larson, Jim Bilden, Jerry Trudo, Noel Knoght, Brent Trudo, Danny Larson

Interment was in Highland Cemetery, rural Elkader. Arrangements were by Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader.
