Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Harvey Busch, age 90, of St. Olaf, Iowa, were held Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at the Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, Iowa. Rev. Marshall Hahn officiated. Casket bearers were Donald Houg, Leland Olson, Virgil Lenth, Harold Krambeer, Harlan Thurn, and Bill Koehn. Honorary casket bearers were David Doerscher, Robert Hilgerson, Burnell Glawe, Bob Geno, Allen Mitchell, David Kahrs, Duane Bouska, Shaun Oppenheimer, Joel Berg, and Robert Zach. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery.
Harvey F. Busch, son of William and Mary (Schmidt) Busch, was born on March 9, 1909 on a farm neat Chester, South Dakota. He was raised on a farm three miles east of St. Olaf. Harvey received his elementary education in the Farmersburg Township, rural Meckenberg School, and the S.D. Wentworth School in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the Elkader High School and the Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa. Harvey was united in marriage to Glennalee Joan Meisner on August 30, 1947. They became the parents of two children. He was a long-time resident and businessman in St. Olaf. He operated the St. Olaf Lumber Company for twenty-five years, later working in farm real estate. Upon his retirement he became a certified water treatment operator and water superintendent for the city of St. Olaf and remained in that position until his death.
Harvey was a veteran of World War II, serving outside the continental USA in the 9th Naval Construction Battalion known as the Seebees, and received an honorable discharge. He was currently a member of the American Legion Post #388 of St. Olaf. He received his fifty year continuous membership certificate and pin. He is also a member of Norway Lutheran Church. He was always active in civic and community affairs, serving on the town council for twenty-five years, fifteen years as the mayor.
Harvey F. Busch died Friday, March 26, 1999 at his home in St. Olaf, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Theresa Busch, a brother Edward Busch, and a son Joey William Busch.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Joan of St. Olaf, a daughter, Cheryl Lee (Alan) Hudlett and granddaughter, April Lee Hudlett, all of Orlando, Florida, and a grandson Dennis Hudlett of Palm Harbor, Florida.
