Edward Cordes

Funeral services for Edward Otto Cordes were held Wednesday, November 24, 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. Pastor Harold Ward officiated. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of services.

Edward was born March 6, 1903, to parents William and Bernardina Kruempel Cordes, in Putnam Twp., Fayette Co. IA. He was baptized by Rev. Fuehr at St. Sebald's Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. R. C. Schlitter. He received his education and lived the early years of his life in the Arlington-Strawberry Point area.

Jan. 1, 1934 he married Elmira E. Kaiser at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. The couple had 4 children. He owned and operated Cordes Produce in Monona for over 50 years. He served on the Monona City Council for several terms and was a member of Kiwanis. He died Monday, November 23, 1987, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son and an infant daughter; one brother, Walter; and 2 sisters, Clara Smith and Ella Dummermuth.

Surviving are his wife, Elmira; 2 sons, Norman of Strawberry Point and E. Douglas of Connersville, IN, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Cordes, Gordon Smith, Claude Smith, Jr., William Dummermuth, Shawn Cordes, Todd Cordes and Jeffrey Cordes.

Pallbearers were Orville Troester, Ivon Schultz, George Keehner, Wallace Thein, Dr. Don Fields, William Gentz and Benjamin Corell.
