Services were held Thursday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Lorenz Casten who died March 4 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated. Burial was in Postville Cemetery with military rites conducted at graveside by the American Legion.

Lorenz Henry Casten, the son of John Casten and Magelena Knodt, was born April 26, 1894 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County. He was baptized into St. Paul Lutheran Church March 12, 1897 by Pastor Schumann and confirmed on April 4, 1909 by Pastor Kuehne. He remained a lifelong member of St. Paul Church.

On January 4, 1927 he was married to Irene Dickman and to this union four children were born.

Mr. Casten farmed in Grand Meadow Township area until 1961 when he retired and moved to Postville. He continued to help on the farm until the past few months. He also took great delight in his hobby of building grandfather clocks.

He served in the Army in World War I, was a member of the American Legion, the World War I Veterans and the Masonic Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Carl, Victor, and John.

Survivors include his wife Irene; four children, Elaine and John of Postville; Leon of Des Moines, and Mary (Mrs. Hugh Wurmie) of Waterloo; four grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard and Walter and a sister, Mrs. Theresia Baltz all of Postville and many nieces and nephews.
