Florence Casten

Funeral services for Florence Casten were held Thursday, May 8, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Florence Casten, daughter of Jens and Olea (Olson) Jenson, was born Dec. 24, 1900 in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She died May 5, 1986 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Marion Lutheran Church.

She attended the local rural schools in Clayton County.

On Sept. 5, 1923 she married Victor John Casten. They had 2 children. They farmed in Clayton County until 1945, when they moved to Postville, where Victor operated a trucking business for 25 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Victor, who died Nov. 29, 1971, two brothers, Alfred and Alvin and a sister, Josie Jenson.

Surviving are a son, Karl, of Postville, a daughter, LaVon and her husband, John Barnes, Shreveport, LA; two grandchildren, John Barnes, Jr., Memphis, TN and Dale Barnes, Milwaukee, WI; three great-grandchildren, Jeannette Barnes and Dale Barnes, Jr. and Teresa Barnes; four sister, Selina Nyberg, Postville, Irene (Mrs. Alfred Cook), Elkader, Velgie Lind, Clinton and Elvina Brackin, Rochelle, IL.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Casket bearers were Clark Lindsey, Gary Ash, Paul A. Schutte, Joe Donlon, Merton Cook, Harland Troy, Leon L. Casten.
