Manchester, Ia. - Accidental discharge of his oldfashioned shotgun is blamed for the death of Perry Rulon, 78, whose body was found at the foot of a 20-foot bluff near his home in Wood Center community, 17 miles northeast of here, late Saturday night. Rulon's poultry yards had been raided lately by animals, presumably foxes, and it is believed by his family that when he left home at 2 p.m. Saturday he planned to hunt the raiders. His failure to return at 7 p.m. started a search by 200 neighbors and other friends.

Elmer Ashline found the body, which had been shot thru the abdomen. The gun was found on a hill about 30 feet above where the body lay. dirt on the muzzle indicated that the weapon, which had no safety, had been used by Rulon as a cane while he descended the steep bluff near Elk creek. Verdict of the Clayton county coroner's inquest which convened immediately after finding of the body was accidental death.

Mr. Rulon was born in Clayton county, Aug. 29, 1855. He married Elizabeth Ross at Edgewood on July 4, 1875, and they lived on the home farm for 35 years. In later years he had been a salesman for monuments.

Rulon is survived by his widow, two daughters and one son. Mrs. John Schrand, Colesburg, Ia.; Mrs. Frank McMahon, Sioux City, Ia., and Harry Rulon, Los Angeles, Cal. There are also 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and three brothers - Charles Rulon, Huron, S.D.; Frank Rulon, in one of the Dakotas; and George Rulon, Oregon.

Tentative arrangements are for services Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home.
