Funeral services for Mabel Anna Caroline Mead were held at 2 p.m. Sunday December 2 at the Foster Funeral Home, Webster City, Iowa and Thursday, December 6 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Rev. Frank Schultz officiated with entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mabel Anna Caroline, daughter of William and Julia (Bauman) Meyer, was born August 29, 1898 at their country home near Littleport, Iowa. She was baptized into the Christian faith November 6, 1898 by Pastor Gottlieb Fritschel of Elkport, Iowa. She grew up at her parents farm, attending the Volga Township District No. 7 country school. She graduated from the Elkader High School and became a school teacher. Her first teaching being done at the country school where she had attended. She also received a degree in education from the University of Iowa at Iowa City, Iowa. On September 17, 1923 she was united in marriage at Dubuque, Iowa to Harlan Mead who was the first superintendent of the Littleport High School. From here they went to Farmersburg, Iowa, Garnavillo, Iowa, South Dakota, Washington, and Webster City, Iowa, where they retired.

Mabel died on November 30, 1990 at the Hamilton County Hospital at Webster City, Iowa following a cerebral hemorrhage. She was the last member of her family, having been preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Alvina Voelker, and 2 brothers, Albert Meyer who died in infancy and George Henry Meyer.

Mabel is survived by 2 nieces, Ruth (Raymond) Ruegnitz of Elkport, Iowa and Mildred Stannard of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in addition to several great-nieces and great-nephews.
