Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for John Starr Baade were held Monday, February 4, 1991 at First Lutheran Church, rural McGregor, Iowa. Pastor Ellen Taube officiated. Burial was in the Norwegian Cemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa. Pallbearers were Douglas Baade, Lorin Dettman, Allen Troester, Arlen Nuehring, Edward Sass, and Donald Montour. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of services.
John Starr Baade, "J.Starr" was born January 15, 1918 in rural Monona, Iowa to Henry and Amanda (Klingeman) Baade. He was baptized June 2, 1918 in Farmersburg, Iowa and confirmed in Monona, Iowa on August 28, 1932. He received his education in Monona High School graduating in 1936. On September 23, 1942 J.Starr was united in marriage to Palma Sebastian at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. To this union three children were born. The couple farmed in the Monona area for many years. After leaving the farm they lived in Guttenberg, Iowa and McGregor, Iowa until recently moving to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. J. Starr retired in 1983. He enjoyed refinishing furniture. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in McGregor, Iowa.
John Starr Baade died Thursday, January 31, 1991 at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Preceding him in death were his parents (his mother passed away two days before him on January 29, 1991), one grandson, Jeremiah Baade, and one brother Theodore Baade.
He is survived by his wife, Palma; 2 daughters, Glee (Ron) Sass of Luana, Iowa, Joy (Harold) Davis of Epworth, Iowa; 1 son, Mark (Sandie) Baade of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ruth Baade of Highland, Indiana.
