Funeral services for Giles William Blietz were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 29 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa with Father Daniel Keppler officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with arrangements by Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa. Casket bearers were Jim Moritz, Brian Blietz, Justin Blietz, Brent Blietz, Gerald Blietz, Brian Middendorf, and Ross Wiebold. Honorary bearers were Art Voss, Harold Vorwald, Robert Kiesau, Roger Geraghty, Mike Looney, L'Dean Henkes, Franklin Schlitter, Jim McNally, Sr., Gilbert Wiethorn, and Dale Henning.

Giles William Blietz, son of William and Mary (Lestina) Blietz, was born September 1, 1916 in Giard Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He received his education at Cooper Valley School, St. Patrick's Parochial School and Monona High School. On July 11, 1939 he married Dorothy Jarms at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. He farmed in the Monona and Garnavillo area all his life. After retiring in 1987, they moved to Monona, Iowa. Giles was a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

Giles died Friday, March 26, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 children, Elaine Blietz and Gary Blietz, in infancy, and 2 brothers, Marion Blietz and Rodger Blietz.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; 4 sons, Roger (Helen) Blietz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dean Blietz of Ft. Myers, Florida, Rick (Laurie) Blietz of McGregor, Iowa, and Kevin Blietz of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and 1 daughter, Marleen (Gary) Moritz of Monona, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
