Marx Christ Peterson passed away January 22, 1928, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Schave, at Clermont, Iowa, after an illness of three days, caused by a stroke of paralysis.

Mr. Peterson was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Denmark, January 6, 1843, and at the time of his death was eighty-five years and sixteen days old.

He came to America at an early age settling at Lyons, Iowa. There he was united in marriage to Sophia Schumann, who preceded him in death twelve years ago.

About 1876 they moved to Clayton county, Iowa, having purchased the eighty acres in the northeast corner of Mendon township just about a mile north of the Gust Anderson place on Pleasant Ridge. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson moved their family away from there about 1890 going to Giard, Iowa, and later purchasing a home near Farmersburg, where he lived about fifteen years. He spent the last five years of his life with his youngest daughter, near Clermont, Iowa.

Mr. Peterson leaves to mourn his loss, five daughters and one son, nine children having died in infancy. The children are: Mrs. Minnie Stearns, of Mommouth, Ill.; Mrs. Lucy Bachelder, of Superb, Saskatchewan, Canada; Mrs. Dora Schave, and Mrs. Theresa Schave, of Clermont, Iowa; Mrs. Lena Heasley of Little York, Ill.; and Bernhard H. Peterson, of Neilsville, Wis., also twenty-two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The funeral was held at Postville, January 25, and the remains were interred in Council Hill cemetery near Watson.

Mr. Peterson was a kind and sympathetic husband and father, always thoughtful of those around him and ever honorable in his dealings with his fellowmen. He was a philosopher, a man of high ideals and ever lived true to his principles.

In the graveyard softly sleeping,
Where the flowers gently wave,
Lies the one we loved so dearly,
In his lonsome silent grave.
The flowers we lay upon him,
My wither and decay,
Where we laid our dearest father,
Just two weeks ago today,
Father is gone but not forgotten.
