Louise Henkes

Services for Louise Henkes were held Thursday, October 15, 1981, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Pastor Harold O. Ward officiated. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Louise Rosene Henkes, the daughter of George and Caroline (Nise) Wagner, was born July 13, 1889, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County. She was baptized in November, 1889, by Pastor J. Gass and instructed in the word of God as an adult and received into membership of the Lutheran Church at Farmersburg, May 16, 1937, by Rev. Adix. She received her education in the area schools.

January 26, 1910, she was united in marriage to Monroe Henkes at the home of her parents. They farmed in Wagner Township where her son Vernis now farms. She came to town January 8, 1952, where she made her home until her death. She always enjoyed her home, and flower garden. She was a member of St. Paul's ALCW, senior citizens and the Holiday Club.

She entered the hospital Sunday morning, October 11 and died Monday, Oct. 12, 1981 at Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Monroe, July 18, 1938; sister, Kathrina Wagner; daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Marietta) Scheffert; granddaughter, Jeanette Schmidt; and two sons-in-law, Arno Krambeer and Virgil Scheffert.

Surviving her are two daughters, Alberta Rolland of Monona and Helen Krambeer, Luana; three sons, Alton of Elkader; Vernis of Luana, and Calvin of Farmersburg; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; three sisters, Sophia Montour of Monona; Johanna Johanningmeier and Marie Huckstadt, both of McGregor; two brothers, George Wagner of Harpers Ferry and Louis Wagner of Luana.
