A funeral mass for Ambrose Looney was held Thursday, July 6 at 10 a.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Paul Otting was in charge of the rites. Interment was in St.Patrick's Cemetery at Monona, Iowa. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Donald Meyer, Daniel Meyer, David Meyer, Anthony Gericke, Jim Bork, and Stanley Looney.

Ambrose Farley Looney, son of Edward A. and Evelyn A. (Henkes) Looney, was born June 19, 1921 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Luana, Iowa. He died Tuesday morning, July 4, 1989 in the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

He graduated from Postville High School in 1940. On November 15, 1944 he married Betty Koecke at West Union, Iowa. They had 7 children. They farmed in Allamakee County until 1957. They also owned and operated the Heidelberg Gardens from 1957 to 1960, a clothing store in DeKalb, Illinois from 1960 to 1961, returning to Postville where they purchased the Alibi Tavern and operated that until 1969. Ambrose was employed at Northern Engraving in Waukon from 1969 until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty who died in 1965 and two brothers, Edward E. and Kenneth Looney.

Surviving are 3 sons, Michael (Dorothy) Looney, Mark (Diane) Looney, and Loren Looney, all of Postville; four daughters, Jane (Dennis)Meyer, Waukon, Iowa, Barbara (John) Gericke, Susan Erbe, and Teresa (Doug) Berg, all of Postville; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Ray of Postville and Jim of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
