MARSHALL TOWN, Iowa -Robert L. Moody, 81, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and formerly of Bettendorf, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Private graveside services will take place at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 2, of Davenport, Iowa or Camp Courageous in Monticello, Iowa.

Bob was born February 7, 1928, in Elkader, Iowa, the son of Roy R. and Emma A. (Shaw) Moody.

During World War II, he served in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater. On July 18, 1987, he was united in marriage to Candy Cromwell in Estes Park, Colorado.

Bob had been self-employed as a metal smith and he had worked as a millwright at Alcoa, Riverdale, Iowa for 23 years. Prior to that, he had worked in construction.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 2, in Davenport and he was also a life member of the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association in Friendship, Indiana.

Bob was a very creative person and he enjoyed jewelry-making, working with metal and engraving.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Candy, of Moline; his nephew, Gary (Judy) Ocenosek, of Zion, Ill.; and his daughters, Josette Moody and Karen Harper.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Harriet Ocenosek.

A very special thanks is extended to the staff of the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf and the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where Bob had been residing for the past two years.
