Obituary

Funeral services for David Kammerer,81, were held Saturday morning, July 11, 1970 at 10:30 o'clock at Pilgrim United Methodist Church with Rev. A.W. Ebert of Lansing officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with military rites conducted at the grave by the Leslie H. Smith Post No. 519 of the American Legion.

Mr. Kammerer died Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 1970 at his home from a heart attack. He had been in ill health for several years. He was born the son of Andrew and Barbara, nee Schiff, Kammerer, June 5, 1889 at Rockwell City, Iowa. In 1899 the family moved to Clayton County settling in Giard Township. Later the family moved to Burt, Iowa. Several years later, Mr. Kammerer returned to Clayton county working for farmers in the vicinity. He served his country in the army during World War I.

He was married to Emma Marfilius, February 23, 1921. After their marriage, they moved to a farm near Froelich, now owned by Justus, their son. In the spring of 1950, they moved to their present home in Monona. His interest in the farm and gardening remained until the time of his death.

Mr. Kammerer was a member of the Pilgrim United Methodist Church of Monona. He held an active interest in the Sunday School and Brotherhood. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, and four brothers. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Wilma) Kugel of Luana, Iowa; two sons, Justus of Farmersburg and Reuben of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, John and one sister Anna, both of LeMars, Iowa, and eight grandchildren.

Music was provided by a quartet composed of LeRoy Eiffert, David Schlitter, Harlan Hass, and John Wachter. Mrs. Clarence Ahrens was the organist. Pallbearers were: David Kugel, Kevin Kammerer, Robert Schrotz, Dayton Marfilius, Raymond Mielke, Milton Meier, Arlys White, and Virgil Knorr.
