Mavis A. PetersonST. OLAF, Iowa -- Mavis Arliss Peterson, 74, of St. Olaf, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Rock Island Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, with the Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating. Burial will be in the Norway Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Roberson Funeral Home, Strawberry Point, is in charge of arrangements.
Mavis was born on Nov. 23, 1935, in St. Olaf, daughter of Thomas and Mabel Bergan Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf. She graduated from Elkader High School and Luther College in Decorah.
Mavis taught high school business courses in Minnesota, Canada and Colorado. She returned home and lived with her parents and her sister, Ruth. Her remaining years were spent at Scenic Acres, St. Olaf.
Her interests included music, especially playing piano.
Surviving are a brother, Wayne (Bernadine) Peterson, of Elkader; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Becker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold; a sister, Ruth; and nephews, Arlyn and Kent Peterson.
