Landsgard, Marjorie Marie (Lenth) 1932-2010

Marjorie Marie Landsgard, 77, St. Olaf, Iowa, died Saturday June 5, 2010 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born July 13, 1932 to Hubert & Elsie (Ihde) Lenth. Margie was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. She attended country school in rural Monona, and graduated from Monona High School, Monona, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa

She was united in marriage to Maurice Landsgard on July 22, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona. They began their married life on the farm where Maurice was born and raised. They lived on that farm until 1984 when they built the house, on the farm, where they were currently living. They had three children, Larry, Lynn and Mark.

Margie enjoyed Rosemaling and was a member of the Nisse Rosemalers, and a volunteer at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum. One of her favorite pastimes was going to flea markets and garage sales, looking for items to add to her numerous collections.

She was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church, in Gunder, where she was actively involved in the WELCA and enjoyed quilting with the church women.Margie was a member of the Home Garden Club and the Gunder Community Club.

She accompanied Maurice, when National DHIA Conventions took him to many interesting places around the United States. She always loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was there for them, on the sidelines, for many ball games, cattle shows and concerts.

Survivors include her husband Maurice, of St. Olaf, her children, Larry of St. Olaf, Lynn and husband Paul Hauer of Jewell, and Mark and wife Marie, of Postville; six grandchildren, Zach, Jesse, Jordan and Monica Landsgard, and Matt and Jill Hauer: sister-in-laws, Bea Lenth and Laura Lenth of Postville, Geraldine Friederich of West Union, Norene Landsgard of Clermont: brother-in-law Orlan Landsgard of St. Olaf, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Alvin and Elden Lenth.

Pallbearers: Zach Landsgard, Jesse Landsgard, Jordan Landsgard, Monica Landsgard, Matt Hauer, Jill Hauer

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at 10:30 am at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, Iowa. The Rev. Marshall Hahn will officiate. Burial will follow in Marion Lutheran Cemetery, Gunder, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, from 4-8 pm at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Schutte Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, is assisting the family.

ST. OLAF, Iowa -- Marjorie Marie Landsgard, 77, St. Olaf, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8. Burial will be in Marion Lutheran Cemetery, Gunder. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

The Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, is in charge of arrangements.

St. Olaf Woman Killed in 1-vehicle Accident

ST. OLAF, Iowa -- A one-vehicle accident Saturday in rural Clayton County left a St. Olaf woman dead.

Marjorie Landsgard, 77, died in the accident, which occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday on Fawn Hollow Road north of St. Olaf.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Department said Landsgard was southbound on Fawn Hollow Road when she veered off the roadway and struck a bridge abutment.

Landsgard was trapped inside her vehicle and had to be freed using the Jaws of Life. She was transported to Central Community Hospital in Elkader and later died.
