Ethel Marion Palmer

Ethel M. Palmer, 84, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and formerly of McGregor, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery in McGregor. The Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien, Wis. handled arrangements.

Ethel Marion (Carlson) Palmer was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Clayton County, to parents Carl A. and Emma (Lindemann) Carlson. She attended country school.

She married Glen Palmer April 29, 1935, at Manchester. They farmed for many years in Clayton County.

They moved to Lynxville, Wis., in 1959, and lived there until 1989, when they moved to Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Survivors include 12 children, Barbara and Irving Horns of Decorah, Roger and Lavonne Palmer of Brandon, Glenita Palmer of Galesville, Wis., Gary and Dixie Palmer of Monona, Allyn and Ann Palmer of Ponchatoula, La., Ronald and Karen Palmer of Postville, Darryl and Joyce Palmer of Waterville, Keith Palmer of Brandon, Wendy and Alan Grimme of Eldridge, Curtis and Jeanne Palmer of Eastman, Wis., Donald and Marilyn Palmer of Eastman, Wis., and Linda and Gerry Stark of Anaheim, Calif.

Survivors also include 38 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Walter "Bud" Carlson of Antioch, Ill.

Ethel Palmer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen, who died Jan. 23, 1999; one daughter, Diane; two sisters, Alice and Marie; five brothers, Harold, Carl, George, Emil and Oscar; two grandsons, Myron Horns and Gregory Walton; and a great-great-granddaughter, Savanna Horns.
