Zita Roach Etteldorf was born June 18, 1907 at Elkader, IA, to parents William and Mary Hannon Roach. She died Tuesday, Oct 30, 1990 at the Guttenberg Care Center. She had been a resident there for several years.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She received her education at St. Joseph's school, graduating in 1926. She attended a teachers college in Cedar Falls and took a normal training course. She taught school in Highland and Boardman twp. schools for 10 years.

On Oct. 11, 1934 she was married to Carl J.. Etteldorf at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader. The couple owned and operated a grocery business in Garnavillo for 10 years. In 1939 they opened a grocery business in Monona and operated that until fire destroyed the building in 1954. They went into the shoe business in Monona for 8 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Carl, 2 brothers, Vincent and Clement and one sister, Marie Ehrhardt.

Surviving are 2 brothers, Paul Roach, Elkader; and LaVern Roach of Illinois; one sister, Ann Boland of Long Beach, CA and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 2, 1990 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona at 10 a.m. Father John Moran officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Elkader.

Pallbearers: Jim Burger, Irvin Huinker, Lawrence Lotza, Bernell Kleifoth, Harvey Gruber and Harold Trappe.

Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona in charge of services.
