Funeral services for Walter Eberling were held Monday, April 13, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Walter Fritz Eberling, son of William and Emma (Harnack) Eberling, was born January 6, 1901 in Clayton County, Iowa. He died Thursday, April 9, 1987 in Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, Iowa.

He was baptized on May 31, 1901 and confirmed on April 5, 1914 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, by the Rev. R. Kuehne. He attended the Grand Meadow School in Clayton County.

On February 14, 1931 he was married to Edna Louise Heins. The had two sons. They farmed in the Luana, Castalia and Postville areas. When they retired, they moved to Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna, who died in 1979, a brother, Elmer and two sisters, Lora Nuehring and Lucy Kamp.

Surviving are two sons, Karlton (Shirley) Eberling and Lee Allan (Eva) Eberling, all of Postville; nine grandchildren, Teresa (Mrs. Lyle Ewing), Kevin and Mark and Lori (Mrs. David Schoenfeldt), Scott, Jeffrey, Daniel, Lynette and David, one great grandson, Karl Ewing, and a brother, Eli and a sister, Alice Eberling, both of Postville.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Casket bearers were Kevin, Mark, Jeffrey, Scott and Daniel Eberling and Lyle Ewing.
