Embretson, Myrtle Thelma (Olson) 1907-1999

On Thursday, August 5th, 1999, Myrtle Thelma Embretson passed away peacefully. Myrtle was born February 14, 1907 in Marion Township, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Olson. She was raised in Clayton County and educated in rural country schools. She was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa.

She married Walde Embretson on June 14, 1933 at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa. To this union a daughter, MarLeen, and a son, Waldo, were born. Myrtle and her husband farmed in the St. Olaf area. She was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church of St. Olaf, Iowa. Myrtle enjoyed piecing quilt tops for WELCA and the fellowship with the members of the group. When she and Wadle retired they moved to St. Olaf. After Walde's death she moved to Cedar Rapids to live with her daughter. Myrtle enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great
great granddaughter with many verses and songs that she knew as a child.

She is survived by two children. MarLeen Zearley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Waldo Embertson and his wife Dorothy of Newhall, Iowa. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and one sister, Ruby Henkes of Fairfax, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walde, her parents, three brothers, Elmer, Henry and Johnnie Olson. Two sisters, Selma Groth, Agnes Skarshaug and two infant brothers.

Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 9, 1999 at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, Iowa with the Rev. Marshall E. Hahn officiating. Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of services.
