Loftsgard, Nelvin Arthur 1908-1998

Funeral services for Nelvin Loftsgard were held Monday, February 2, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural, Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Paul Birkedal officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Nelvin Arthur Loftsgard, the son of Nels and Anna (Jellum) Loftsgard, was born November 30, 1908, Marion Township, Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa. He passed away Friday, January 30, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union, Iowa. He had reached the age of 89 years and two months.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder, Iowa. He attended the Marion Township School near his home. On June 18, 1936 he was married to Bessie Constance Lien at the East Clermont Lutheran Parsonage by the Reverend Gunsten. They farmed in Grand Meadow Township for many years and then Frankville until 1956 when they moved to West Union. Nelvin was employed by Baumler Implement. In his retirement years, he learned to weave rugs and crochet.

He is preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, Mary Olson, (sic) Amundson, (sic) Tilda Amundson, Helgina Nelson, Viola Johanningmeier and Sophia Loftsgard and three brothers, Louie Loftsgard, Ole Loftsgard and Ted Loftsgard.

Surviving is his wife, Bessie of West Union and several nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Arthur Amundson, Clarence Amundson, Justin "Skip" Baker, Thomas Luhman, Quinton Olson, Carlyn Johanningmeier.
