Frederick W. Schoellerman was born at Vernon, Holstein, Germany, son of Frederick and Katharina Schoellerman who preceded him in death, both in the year of 1905. When he was two years of age he came to America with his parents and settled at Garnavillo, Ia. It was there at the age of 13 that he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He learned the wagon making trade and moved to Farmersburg, Iowa, where he conducted a shop until 1884.

December 12, 1874, he was united in marriage to Julia Kunzel at Farmersburg, Iowa. They moved to Iroquois, S.D., where they homesteaded and worked at the carpenter trade until 1903. He moved to Montgomery, Iowa, where he operated a store for a few months until he bought the Sioux Valley store of Adelia Green. He was also appointed Postmaster there for 14 years. In 1917 he sold his store to his son, Ben, and he and his wife moved to town. She passed away on April 4, 1923, and he passed away April 5, 1939, or just 16 years later.

After the death of his wife he spent two years in California with his daughters. When he returned here he made his home with his son, Alfred, in Lake Park for the better part of 11 years. Last February he went to the home of his son, Herb, at the Sioux Valley store where he passed away Wednesday morning, April 5, 1939, at 5 a.m.

Four of his eight children survive. They are Ora of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Walter Heber of Washington, D.C.; William of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Herbert of Sioux Valley. Four children have preceded him in death. They are Cora, who died in infancy, Ben who died in 1922, Alfred who passed away June 10, 1935, and Julius who died in 1937. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were his daughters, Ora Schoellerman of Los Angeles, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Heber and son of Washinton, D.C., and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hinsch of Estherville. Pallbearers were Richard Schroeder, Theodore Schroeder, Herman Finnern, John Jacobsen, Fred Ahrenstorff, Fred Wolff. Mrs. Bernell Steinbeck and Mrs. Ted Britton sang, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Stoltenberg of Round Lake.
