Lange, Mabel C. (Seeland) 1910-1995

Mabel C. Lange, daughter of William and Sophia (Gottachalk) Seeland, was born June 9, 1910 near St. Olaf, Iowa. She died Sunday, April 16, 1995 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, Iowa. She was 84 years old.

She was raised and educated in the area attending rural schools. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa, and confirmed in 1923 at the Evangelical Reformed Church, Elkader.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Wolfe in May of 1929. She later married Leland W. Lange in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 9, 1936.

Mabel worked several years at Muters Speaker Plant in Guttenberg, and later at Pedretti's Bakery in Elkader. Mabel and Leland spent their married life together farming the family farm. Mabel belonged to Peace United Church of Christ, St. Olaf Senior Citizens, and Who's Who Secret Pal Club. She enjoyed dancing, driving her car, and being with her family. Mabel was active until her death.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean (Don) Minkler of Cedar Rapids; her son, ValDean (Pat) Lange of Elkader; seven grandchildren, Nancy Latta, Bill Minkler, Dean Minkler, Deb Sylvester, Dawn Lange, Kent Lange and Kurt Lange; thirteen great-grandchildren, Mike, Candy, Nichole, Kristi, Shane, Monica, Matt, Tiffany, Ryan, Melissa, Elizabeth, Tyler and Autumn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland, who died in 1975, her parents, a sister, Ruby Fox, and a brother, Lester Seeland.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, 1995 at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, Iowa. Interim pastor Donna Buckman officiated. Honorary bearers were Bill and Dean Minkler, Kent and Kurt Lange. Casket bearers were Jon Sylvester, Paul Latta, Tom Early, Bob Nading, Lawrence Kuehl, Doug Kuehl, and Gene Vigen. Arrangements were by Leonard-Witt Funeral Home of Elkader, Iowa. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Center, Iowa.
