Eva Ruth Genz, daughter of Andrew and Bessie (Thorp) Sickels, was born April 26, 1922 at Lima, Fayette County, Iowa. She died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. She was 71.

She attended Waukon Junior College and Mary Crest College in Davenport, becoming a master of math school teacher. On Nov. 5, 1942 she married Wayne Genz in rural Harpers Ferry. The couple lived for 33 years in the Bettendorf-Davenport area. They resided in Waukon for nine years, moving to Monona in 1991. Eva enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling through the continental U.S. and Canada. She had been the principal at Cody Elementary in LeClaire, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were her father, Andrew, and a brother, Arthur. Survivors include her husband, Wayne; a son, Roger, of Monona; her mother Bessie Sickels of Eastman, Wis.; four grandchildren, Melissa Smith, Randy Genz, Samantha Genz and Charity Genz; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kody, and Ryan; three brothers, Gene Sickels of Waukon, Cecil Sickels of Barneveld, Wis. and Oakley Sickels of Cedar Rapids; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 18, 1994 at Schultz's Funeral Home, Pastor Lynn Schreck officiating. Burial was in Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona. Pallbearers were Wesley Genz, Terry Johnson, Dennis, Gary, Robert, Richard and David Sickels, Frederich Larson and Kenneth Chapin. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
