Mae M. Ewing

Mae Marie "Maymer" Ewing, 83, of Luther Manor, Dubuque, formerly of 604 Snake St., North Buena Vista, Iowa, passed away at 1 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Luther Manor, of natural causes.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

She was born on July 20, 1926, in McGregor, Iowa, daughter of Walter and Dora (Eberhart) Boyce.

Mae moved to North Buena Vista when she was 12 years old, when her father took a job with the Milwaukee Railroad. She attended school in Buenie until she was in the ninth grade. She rode the train to Guttenberg so she could attend Guttenberg High School.

She married John "Cobb" Ewing on May 7, 1947, in Elkader, Iowa; he preceded her in death on April 4, 1998.

Mae was a homemaker, who loved crocheting, reading and shopping.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Donald) Riniker, of North Buena Vista; a son, Jim (Marilyn) Ewing, of Cascade, Iowa; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Henry) Kann, of Guttenberg, Iowa; nieces; and nephews

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Fangman, in 2005; a grandson, Jeff Riniker, in 2009; a brother, Bill Boyce; and two sisters, Betty Hefel and Dorina Coconaugher.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paulsen and the nurses and staff of Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for their care and concern for Mae.
