Henry T. Olson

Funeral services for Henry T. Olson were held Monday, Oct. 6 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Ted Ager officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Henry T. Olson, son Thomas and Mary (Olson) Olson, was born Aug. 9, 1894 at Hillsboro, ND. He died Friday, Oct. 3, 1986 in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, IA.

He came to Clayton County in a covered wagon at the age of 3 with his parents. He attended the local rural school near his home.

On January 11, 1917 he married Clara Ostlie at the Parsonage in Clermont. The couple had 6 children. They farmed near Gunder until 1959 when they retired. They moved to their home in Luana in 1965.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Clara, who died March 15, 1986, 3 sons, Hiram, Milo and Gerald, 4 brothers, John and Thelmer in infancy, and John and Elmer and a sister, Selma Groth.

Surviving are two sons, Marion and his wife, Fern, of Monona, Donald and his wife, Jan, of Postville, a daughter, Clarine and her husband, Lloyd Schutte of Castalia, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Agnes) Skarshaug of Ames, Ruby Henkes, of Fairfax and Myrtle Embretson of Cedar Rapids.

Henry was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, secretary of the Gunder Cheese Factory for about 20 years, director of the Marion Telephone Co. and served on the Luana Town Council.

Casket bearers were Jeff Olson, Jim Looney, Gary Hager, Tom Yoe, Allen Handke, Jim Olson, Larry Moore, Dale Olson, Greg Olson, Jerry Groth, Mike Schutte, Rex Allen, David Olson, Nick Rolling and John Ridihalgh.
