Austin Redmond Newcomb

Austin Redmond Newcomb, 86, son of Dwight C. and Mary (Howe) Newcomb, was born March 29, 1905, on a farm near Monona, IA. He died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1992, in Lutheran Hospital at LaCrosse, WI.

He attended the Monona Public School. On Oct. 3, 1942, he was married to Mary R. Licht at McGregor, IA, by the Rev. J. J. Horsfield.

On June 24, 1967, Austin was married to Eunice (Schultz) Heins in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, IA. He had farmed in the Monona and Decorah areas until 1984 when they moved to Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary; his wife, Eunice; five brothers: Alexander, Randolph, Clyde, Dwight and Everett; and a sister, Elizabeth.

Surviving are two stepson, Nathan Heins and wife, Caryl, and Jerry Heins and wife, Karen, all of Postville. Also surviving are four stepdaughters, Gloria and husband, Gary Gelo, Waukon; Linda and husband, Terry Krouise, Cedar Rapids; Amelia and husband, Gene Hertrampf, Woodman, WI; and Carol King of McGregor, IA; 31 step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1992, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. The soloist was Ronald Meyer, accompanied by Joanne Martins, organist. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Jerry Heins (Jr.), Tony Hertrampf, Brad Krouie, Scotty Lessard, Timmy Lessard, Brian Krouise and Randy Heins.
