Donald F. Peterson

Donald F. Peterson, 68, of Oelwein, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, January 8, 2003, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, after a sudden illness.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2003, at Grace United Methodist Church at Oelwein, Iowa, with Rev. Darwin Moore officiating. Interment was at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Olaf, Iowa, with Military Graveside Rites by St. Olaf American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Peterson of Oelwein; three sons, Ray (Cathy) Peterson of Strawberry Point, Jay (Janice) Peterson of Strawberry Point, and Dennis (Karrie) Peterson of Oelwein; two daughters, Kay (Steve) Kluesner of Guttenberg and Amanda Peterson of Oelwein; three step-daughters, Cheryl (Rob) Supples of Sarasota, Florida, Cathy (Mike) Hoeger of Delaware, Iowa, and Melissa Pritchard of Oelwein; five grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerry in 1963, granddaughter Elizabeth Gonzales, and two brothers, Ivan and Meder.

Donald Frederick Peterson was born on March 9, 1934, at rural Frankville, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Isabelle (Englehardt) Peterson. Don was baptized at the Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, Iowa. He received his education from the Gunder country school. Don was a peacetime veteran of the Army and served in Germany.

Donald married Barbara E. Pritchard on February 26, 1960 at Evansdale, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. Don and Barb later divorced. Don later married Marilyn Jean Houser at Ossian, Iowa. Don farmed in the Gunder and Littleport areas. He also hauled canned milk for the St. Olaf Creamery. Don then worked for Ruff's Elevator in Oelwein for many years, retiring in 1997. After retiring he enjoyed working part-time for Larry Stohr, Mike Recker and with his son, Ray, with Ray's Excavating of Strawberry Point. Don was an avid card player. He enjoyed tractor pulls, car racing and anything to do with farming.
