LOCAL CITIZEN DIES IN WEST

Edgewood was shocked to hear of the death in Tucson,Arizona of O.F. (Olie) Sheffert, one of the most popular of the town's citizens. Mr. and Mrs. Sheffert had been operating the Legion Club in Edgewood until last November when they retired and took her parents to Tucson. Olie and Marion liked the place so well, that they returned to Edgewood for a month or six weeks for the holiday season, and then purchased a trailer and returned to Arizona to spend the remainder of the winter, there. Olie had been working on a building project there and collapsed while at work, according to the report obtained by this paper. The body was retuned to Edgewood and was at the Appleton Funeral Home until Sunday noon. The body lay in state at the Methodist Church from noon till 1:30 p.m. after which the coffin was closed. Services were in charge of the Appleton funeral Home of Edgewood. Burial was in the family lot in the Monona Cemetery.

The minister in charge was Rev. Russell Wilson of the Edgewood Methodist Church. Pall bearers were Austin Weyant, Walter McElmeel, Everett Hansel, Everett Hamlett, Merwin Stone, Emmett Kauffman, C.A. Smith and Donald Rhines.

Orlando Ferdinand Sheffert

Orlando Ferdinand Sheffert, son of E.H. and Matilda Abel Sheffert was born July 22, 1903 near Monona in Clayton County. He attended country school in his neighborhood and was graduated from Luana High School. On August 16, in the year 1933, he was married to Marian Reidel at Nashua, Iowa. Their lives were blessed with the gift of three children. The Shefferts came to Edgewood in 1935 where they managed the local theatre, a cafe, and later engaged in television business. At the time of his death, February 11, 1959, the Shefferts were vacationing in Tucson, Arizona. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Orlando was a member of the Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Marian, one daughter Kay (Mrs. Willian Booth, of Chicago; two sons, Lary of Oelwein and Gary who is in the Armed Services. Also surving are three granchildren, Sharon Kay Booth, Kandy Kay and Lary Leigh Sheffert. Also his father, E.H. Sheffert of Monona, two sisters, Mrs. John Goltz and Mrs. Elgie Ferguson, both of Monona, and one brother Verne, of Portland, Oregon. His mother and two brothers preceded him in death.
