Gerald Leonard Pape

Gerald Leonard Pape, son of Grant and Martha (Pape) Pape, was born May 9, 1936 at West Union. He was baptized May 24, 1936 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Eldorado, and confirmed July 2, 1950 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Luana. Gerald received his education at the Luana School.

On October 9, 1955 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Dickman at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Gerald had been employed at Pape's Milling Service, as a bulldozer operator for Loren Leas, farmed from 1961 to 1983, sold Mallard Seed Corn for over three years, was a road grader operator for three years in Allamakee County, and most recently as a forklift operator and warehouse supervisor for Pattison Bros. Ag Products Terminal, Clayton, for the past fourteen months. He served on the Luana Co-op Board, the Mississippi Valley and Swiss Valley Board, the Luana Cemetery Association, Church Council, Inter-Church Council, and was a 4-H leader for six years.

Gerald died Thursday, December 12, 1991 at Ag Products Terminal Cave, Clayton.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant daughter, Susan; and a brother, Gaylord.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Steve and his wife Clare of Luana and Dan and his wife Lynette of Monona; three daughters, Nancy Wirkler and her husband Robert of Postville, Darci of Cedar Rapids, and Julie at home; five grandchildren, Brent and Evan Pape, Daniel and Kelly Wirkler, and Drew Pape; two brothers, Lorenz Pape of Postville, and Lyle Pape of Luana; a sister, Henrietta Dull of Postville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 16, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Luana. Rev. Ted Ager officiated.

Pallbearers were Dale Pape, Jim Cowell, Marvin Mohs, Larry Keehner, Jim Walter, and Keith Mohs. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
