Rueben Kruse

Rueben John Kruse, 90, of Monona died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Garden View Assisted Living Center, Monona, following a brief illness.

Rueben was born February 7, 1918, rural Allamakee County, to Fred and Bertha (Wilke) Kruse. He attended Figgie Country School through the eighth grade.

Rueben was united in marriage to Frances Elizabeth Frye February 11, 1941. They were the proud parents of eight children. Frances passed away May 19, 1993, from a result of a car accident. Rueben served his country during World War II in the Army from 1943-1945 when he was Honorably Discharged.

Rueben and Frances farmed together for many years until they moved to Monona in 1967. Rueben worked for Neil Meyer on his farm and sold Dr. Thompson's Mineral for many years. He also did lawn care for several people in Monona over the years. Rueben enjoyed visiting with people, playing cards and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include seven children - Sheron (Robert) Trappe, Monona, Nile (Joyce) Kruse, Monona, Danny (Mary) Kruse, Harpers Ferry, Steve (Sheryl) Kruse, Hiawatha, Deb (Don) Ferguson, Marion, NC, Randy Kruse, McGregor, Cindy (Daniel) Bland, La Porte City; two daughters-in-law, Mary Kruse, Rockwall, TX, Sondra Kruse, McGregor; grandchildren, Larry Trappe and friend, Lynette Ihde, Lori Trappe and friend, Kevin Welch, Loren Trappe, Leon (Kim) Trappe, Jeff (Julie) Kruse, Julie (Tim) Sostak, Deanna (David) Asencio, Karla (Jeff) Sarchett, Cory Kruse, Gwyne Kruse, Shawn (Kelly) Kruse, Staci (Matt) Schlict, Spencer Kruse, Troy (Susie) Ferguson, Trent Ferguson, Tara Ferguson and fianc, Brian Egan, Tiffany Ferguson, Joey (Jenny) Kruse, Travis (Ginger) Kruse, Amy Kruse, Hollie Kruse, Braycen Bland and Yulan Bland; step-grandchildren, Jessica (Nathan) Longwisch, Joslyn (Jordan) Truax, Kimberly Bland and fianc, Blake; great-grandchildren, Dominik, Trai, Alyssa, Taylor, Gage, Zane, Jase, Tyler, Aubrey, Cayden. Kassandra, Zachary, Ashley, Tyler, Jessica, Jon, Jacob, Zachary, Tori, Ali, Gabby and step-great-grandchildren, Cole, Ethan, Preston and Reese.

Rueben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; one son, Gary Kruse; one sister, Mardella Schlitter; two brothers, Milton and Verni Kruse; one grandson in infancy and one great-grandson, Troy Trappe.

Funeral Services were held Monday, July 28, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated.

Burial followed in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona, with military honors.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 27, 2008, from 2-6 p.m. at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church Monday.

Casket Bearers: Larry Trappe, Loren Trappe, Leon Trappe, Jeff Kruse, Cory Kruse, Shawn Kruse, Spencer Kruse, Troy Ferguson, Trent Ferguson, Joey Kruse, Travis Kruse, Braycen Bland and Yulan Bland.

Honorary Bearers: Lori Trappe, Julie Sostak, Deanna Asencio, Karla Sarchett, Gwyne Kruse, Staci Schlict, Tara Ferguson, Tiffany Ferguson, Amy Kruse, Hollie Kruse.
