James Chase

James William Chase, 70, of Farmersburg died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at his home following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17 at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona. The Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiated. Burial followed in Council Hill Cemetery, rural Monona, with military rites.

Jim was born February 5, 1938 in Volga to Floyd and Beverly (Whitford) Chase. He graduated from Volga High School.

Jim served his country in the United States Army shortly after the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Carol Schlitter August 20, 1960 at the Evangelical Church in Monona. Two sons were born to this union.

Jim worked as a carpenter for many years with Great Plains and UBC. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. He was happiest when he was working, whether it was building, cutting wood or just keeping his hands busy. Jim had the opportunity to meet the astronauts from Apollo 13. He loved spending time with his family and talking sports with his grandson, Andrew.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Chase of Farmersburg; two sons, Scott (Junell) Chase of Farmersburg and Steven (Marilyn) Chase of Harpers Ferry; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Nicholas, Zachary, Adam (Danielle), Amanda, Adriana, Andrew and Tasha; one great-grandson, Bradyn; one sister, Marilyn Hogue of Sioux City; and two brothers, Robert (Joan) Chase of Spearfish, SD and Donald (Sharon) Chase of Manchester.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Casketbearers were Karsten Foels, Donald Chase, Harold Krambeer, Ross Krambeer, Steve Schlee and Adam Chase. Honorary casketbearers were Jim's grandchildren and his brother, Bob.
