WILLIAM E. ODELL; 1849-1920

William Elijah Odell was born at Rensselaer, Jasper County, Indiana, September 19, 1849. After attending public schools of his day he prepared for entrance to college under the tutorship of a Mr. Porter, a brother of the then President of Yale. He then entered the University of Wisconsin, from which noted institution of learning he graduated in the Class of 1872, with the degree of Bachelor of Laws.

After his graduation he entered the law office of his father, Elijah Odell, a practicing lawyer in the City of McGregor, Clayton County, Iowa, and took up the study of his profession. In due time he was admitted to the Bar of this State and began the practice of his profession and association with his father. His father's death occurred some months afterwards, but the business was continued by the son for about fourteen years thereafter.

On December 13, 1876, he was united in marriage with Marian Esther Byrne, of Madison, Wisconsin, who survives him. Mr. Odell came with his family to Des Moines in the fall of 1891, where he resumed his practice, and entered into partnership with William A. Park, which continued as the firm of Park & Odell down to within a short time of the death of Mr. Park. He died at his home on May 7, 1920. Two daughters and his wife survive.
