George Rickert

George Ernest Rickert was born the son of John and Dorothea (Dunfeldt) Rickert on July 19, 1884, at Meriden, Minnesota, Steele County. He passed away at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point on June 12, 1972 at the age of 87 years.

He was married to Sophia Possehl Feb. 10, 1909. To this union three children were born. He was married to Katherine Otterbeck Scherf on June 26, 1955 at Stewartville, Minn. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Strawberry Point, Ia. He was baptized and later confirmed in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Owatonna, Minnesota on April 3, 1898. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Katherine, two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Sylvia) Engelhardt of Monona, Mrs. Walter (Gladys) Weppler, Decorah, one step-daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Wiltse of Greeley, one son Gerald Rickert, of Bernard, Ia. and two step-sons, Marvin Skibbe of Stewartville, Minn. and Bernard Skibbe of Spring Valley, Calif., seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

He was a retired farmer from the Strawberry Point-Elkader area.

Services were held from Emanuel Lutheran Church, Strawberry Point, Wed., June 14 with the Rev. Alfred Akupins officiating. Casketbearers were Oscar Possehl, Cedar Rapids, Ralph and Rudy Possehl of Elkader, Burdeen Possehl, Harlan Weyant, and Realto Wold of Edgewood. Interment was made in Cass township Cemetery, Strawberry Point. The Appleton Funeral Home of Edgewood was in charge.
