WILLIAM GILBERT MEYER

Funeral services for William Gilbert Meyer were held June 3, 11 a.m. at Giard Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Dubbins officiated. Organist was Mrs. James Schultz. Burial was in Giard Cemetery, rural Farmersburg. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of services.

William Gilbert Meyer, oldest son of Gilbert and Christine Henkes Meyer, was born July 8, 1920 on the family farm in Giard Township.

He received his education in Monona, graduating from Monona High School in 1936. On April 25, 1943 he married Ruth Marjorie Bernhard in Monona. He was a life-long farmer in Giard Township. Ruth died November 21, 1980. On May 29, 1982 William married Helen Gisleson in Monona.

He died at his home in Monona Wednesday, May 31, 1989, following a two-year bout with cancer. He was a member of Giard Methodist Church and served on many committees. He served on the Mar-Mac rescue squad. His other activities included the Clayton County ASCS committee and the Giard cemetery board.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Ruth.

Surviving is his wife, Helen; 2 sons, William, Mount Vernon, IA and Robert, Giard, IA; 3 step-children, Dwight Hanson, Omaha, NE, Susan Shykes, Fountain, CO and Barbara Gisleson, Mankato, MN; 3 grandchildren, LaVonne, Renee and Brent; 3 step-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Meyer, Ft. Atkinson, WI and one sister, Margie Yount, Nora Springs, IA.

Pallbearers: Bruce Meyer, Greg Koether, Maurice Meyer, Reynold Kann, John Meyer, Pat Kelscher and Lynn Martinson.
