LaVern Junior Ayers, 81, of McGregor, Iowa died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at Prairie Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in McGregor with Pastor David Zimmer officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor.

Friends could call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in McGregor, and also at the church from noon until time of services.

LaVern was born in Guttenberg, Iowa, on May 25, 1926, to Lyle and Minnie (Follman) Ayers. He was baptized on June 25, 1926, at St. John Lutheran Church, Guttenberg and confirmed on April 18, 1943. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, McGregor, by Pastor L.G. Schember. He married Lorraine Brainard on Nov. 15, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of McGregor; children: Michael and Karen Ayers of Stoughton, Wisc., Diana (Ayers) and Jeff VanNice of Beaver Dam, Wis., Jon and Teaka Ayers of McGregor, Theresa Ayers of Monona, Barbara (Ayers) Rieck of McGregor, and the Frank and Kris Ries family of Marquette, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister Lillian Ayers Thornton and husband George, a half-brother Frank Rodenberg and wife, Judy; a half-sister, Betty Rodenberg Sweeney and husband, Bill, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father John Rodenberg, son Robert Ayers, grandson Troy Lee Trappe and half-brother Ben Rodenberg.
