Rites Held For George Thies

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville for George Thies, who passed away at the home of his son Leslie Thies at Waterloo on January 15. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

George Thies, the son of Carl Thies and Lena Meyer, was born in Clayton county on September 29, 1879. He passed away on January 15, 1956 at the home of his son, Leslie Thies of Waterloo.

He lived in Clayton county until 1922, when he moved to Fayette county. He has most recently lived in West Union. He had been in declining health for the last six months.

Mr. Thies was married to Louisa Fangmeier of Postville on February 12, 1903 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville. To this union were born three sons, Leslie, Clarence and George, and two daughters, Adeline and Ruth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, who passed away in 1941.

He is survived by three sons, Leslie and George of Waterloo, and Clarence of West Union, and two daughters, Adeline, Mrs. Selmer Nordhus of West Union, and Ruth, Mrs. Robert Perry of Waterloo, two great grandchildren, 16 grandchildren, one brother, Rudy Thies of Postville and one sister, Mrs. Ed Quamine of Waterloo.
