Fred Clefisch Taken By Death Friday, Jan. 10, 1947
Fred Clefisch, native resident of this community, died at his home in Guttenberg Friday, January 10. Mr. Clefisch had been ill since last May when he had suffered a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday by Rev. W. F. Domres, pastor at St. John's Lutheran church, and burial was in the Ceres Lutheran cemetery. The pall bearers, all nephews of the deceased were: Oscar and Elmer Kottke, Earl, LaVerne and Virgil Clefisch, and John Dannenbring.
Fred Clefisch was born March 8, 1876 at Ceres. On September 18, 1912 he married Louisa Lewin. The couple lived on a farm near Ceres for five years and then purchased a homestead farm between Garber and Guttenberg where they lived until 1942. Since that time they lived with their eldest son on a farm near McGregor, and later came to Guttenberg to live.
Mr. Clefisch was preceded in death by his wife who died on January 6, 1946, and two sons, Lester in December 1943, and Pfc. Harvey Clefisch in Germany in December 1944.
He is survived by four children: Raymond of Westgate; Mrs. Carter Smith of Garber; Harley and Kenneth of Guttenberg; a daughter-in-law Mrs. Isador Clefisch of Readlyn, and six grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister and three brothers; Mrs. Katherine Kottke of Guttenberg, John and Henry of Garber, and August of Janesville, Wisconsin.
