Vivian Gass

Funeral services for Mrs. John Gass were held Monday, April 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. The Reverend Dwight Albers officiated. Marilana Sutter was the organist. Inurnment will take place at a later date. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Vivian Mae (Easler) Gass was born September 19, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, and was adopted by Elmer William and Bertha Bushong (Jones) Easler. She passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007, in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, Iowa, at the age of 67 years, six months, and ten days.

She graduated from the Clermont High School. On February 2, 1958 Vivian was married to John Charles Gass in the West Clermont Lutheran Church by the Reverend John D. Kronlokken. To this union three children were born.

Vivian assisted John with his milk route. Later they worked together as custodians at the Clermont School until Vivian applied for the job of custodian at the Valley School. She had worked as a custodian from 1971 to 1998. During this time, Vivian had passed the requirements and became an EMT for the Clermont Ambulance Service. In 2000 she received her certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Vivian became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in West Union in July of 2002.

Vivian enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, The Order of Eastern Star, and the Business and Professional Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband, John, her children, Kathy Lynn (Roger) Havenstrite, West Union, IA, David John (Dori) Gass, Nevada, IA, and Melissa Fay Bushong White, Strawberry Point, IA; three grandchildren, Mason Earl John Havenstrite, Jonathan David Gass, and Olivia Maelynn Elise White; and a brother, Robert (Vera) Easler, Des Moines, IA.

She is preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Carol.
