Brett R. Kainz

Brett Kainz, 32, of Arlington, died on Monday morning, March 19, 2007 at the family home in Arlington after a long illness.

Funeral mass was Thursday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Volga. Rev. Paul Peters conducted the service.

Visitation was on Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, and for one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Interment was at the Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Brett Robert Kainz was born on May 19, 1974 at Guttenberg, the son of Robert Francis and Mary Kathryn (Weipert) Kainz. He graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1992. Brett continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls where he received his B.A. in Geography in 1997. He worked in Milwaukee for three years and then lived in Des Moines the past five years.

Brett was employed at Wells Fargo Financial in Des Moines. He was very active with the volleyball, softball and bowling teams at work. Brett also participated in several American Cancer Society Walks. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Mary Kainz of Arlington; a sister, Nikki (Kainz) and Graham Smurthwaite of Arlington; two brothers, Nathan Kainz of Waukee and Derek Kainz at home; a niece: Zoe Smurthwaite of Arlington; two nephews: Taylor and Ripon Smurthwaite, both of Arlington; maternal grandmother, Lila Weipert of McGregor and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brett was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rudy and Dorothy Kainz and maternal grandfather: Francis Weipert.
