Mayme Landt

Mayme Loretta Henderson Landt, 93, Luana, Iowa, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, from old age. Mayme was born July 15, 1912, on a farm near Volney, Iowa, to Clarence and Jessie (Stafford) Henderson. She was baptized on August 16, 1914, by Rev. James B. Bird in the Methodist Church. She was later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith by Rev. Henry Kumpf in 1936, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. She attended Walnut Grove Country School, rural Monona and graduated with the class of 1930, from Monona High School.

On November 6, 1934, she was united in marriage to Harvey Landt at Waukon, Iowa, by Rev. R. L. Van Nice. Four children were born to this union. Mayme and Harvey farmed for many years on their farm south of Luana, moving to Luana in 1961. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and St. John ELCW. Mayme also taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years.

Survivors include three sons, LeRoy (Judith) Landt, Cedar Rapids, Wayne (Martha) Landt, Luana, Don L. (Dorothy) Landt, Palo; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Rosella Henderson, Madison, WI, and Katie Henderson, Monona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harvey, on September 6, 1989; one daughter in infancy; four brothers, Harold, Leon, Lester "Scotty", Marlin "Doc" Henderson and three sisters, Thelma Bentien, Frances Engelhardt and Gretchen Wiethorn.

Services were held on Thursday, July 6, 2006, at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Christopher Staley will officiate.

Burial followed in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Luana.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, from 5-7 p.m. at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona.

Casket Bearers: Norman Mueller, Walt Wedo, Dave Engelhardt, LaVerne Landt, Harlin Bentien and Kurt Wiethorn
