William F. H. Kugel

Services were held Monday, December 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville for William F. H. Kugel who died December 20 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

The son of August and Mary Zieman Kugel was born December 10, 1887 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa and named William Frederick Heinrich Kugel.

He was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church October 16, 1888 by the Rev. John Gass and confirmed March 23, 1902 by the Rev. P. E. Bockelmann.

On February 22, 1916 he was united in marriage to Amelia Hamann. They became parents of five children.

He farmed in Grand Meadow Township until 1945 when he retired and moved to Postville. During those years he took great pride in serving as custodian of the Grand Meadow Cemetery.

Mr. Kugel served on the Church Council of St. Paul's church for many years, was co-chairman of the building committee during the remodeling in the 1940's and also served on the building committee for the new parsonage. He also served several years as trustee of Grand Meadow Township.

Preceding him in death were his two brothers, Harvey and Freddie; three sisters, Louise, Emele and Amy; a grandson, Daniel and a great grandson, David William, Jr.

Survivors include his wife Amelia; five children: Vernon and Donald of Postville; Mrs. Eugene (Eunice) Torson of West Union; Mrs. Keith (Gertrude) Lee and Mrs. Ronald (Bernadine) Blumhagen of Monona; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and other relatives.
