Benjamin Woolstencroft, father of B. W. editor of the Fulda Republican and Alex, Deputy Sheriff, of this county, died at home in Fulda, Feb. 19 1887, age 78 years.

This venerable veteran was one of the early settlers of this region, having settled at Graham Lakes, Nobles Co. in 1872 or 15 years ago. He was born in England and when 16 years old entered the British army, afterward he served in the U. S. Marines. In 1837 was in the U. S. service in the campaign in Florida with Gen. Taylor. He was also a soldier in the war with Mexico and other campaigns with the army.

He then settled in Clayton Co., Iowa. where he followed the quiet life of a farmer until 1862 when he again volunteered his services to his country and served three years and (edge of paper cut off) months. In all he spent 21 years of his life a soldier, in all of which he made an unreproachable accord.

He had the honor of being the first Comander of Zack Taylor Post of the G. A. R., at Fulda who buried him with the honor of the order.
