(Richardson Co., Neb.)

DIED

Rosella [sic] Schroeder died at her home in Preston on Tues. Sept 16, [1902] at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 17 days.

The deceased was born in Hanover, Germany, November 29, 1818. When in the eighteenth year of her age she came to this country and in 1856 was married to Henry Dubbels. Her husband died soon after and in 1861 she was married in Guttenberg, Iowa to Fred Schroeder. They came to Nebraska in 1866 and have lived in this county ever since, having spent the past eighteen years in Preston. Mrs. Schroeder leaves, besides her husband, three children, three step children, thirty-seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. To all of these the sympathy of the community is extended. Mrs. Schroeder was a Christian woman and all through her long life she had served the Lord with zeal unflinching and faith unyielding. She died in full assurance of the reward that awaits those who keep the faith as she had kept it.

Her funeral was held on Wednesday and was largely attended. At the conclusion of the services the remains were borne to Zion cemetery and laid to rest.

The obituary above and notes following, appear in "A Pioneer Couple: The Story of L. D. William and Louisa Gatz", a family tree booklet compiled by Elizabeth L. Gatz, May 1992. Elizabeth Gatz added these notes: "If 1818 is Rosetta's correct birth date, she consistently knocked years off her age throughout her lifetime, even in 1856 before she had married a younger man. This date would make her nearly ten years older than Schroeder, rather than the six indicated in most census reports; I question its accuracy. All the marriage information is in error."

Schröder--- Rosette Schröder, nee Ribbe, wife of Friedrich W. Schröder, was born on November 29, 1818 in Linsburg, county Wölpe, Hannover, and died of stomach problems and old age on September 16, 1902, at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 17 days. Mother Schröder joined the Evangelical congregation 32 years ago and stayed faithfully with it until her death. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, and pious Christian. She leaves behind her husband with whom she shared joy and sorrow for 41 years, one son, two daughters, two brothers, one sister, 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many friends. May God give all of them a happy reunion in heaven. C. Linge
