Winifred Fern Ensign, daughter of Frederick H. and Gusta P. Ensign, was born near Farley, Sept. 13, 1902, and died at Palmer Memorial hospital, West Union, Sept. 22, 1956.

She received her education in the grade schools of Farley, and Storm Lake and Elkader high school. On Jan. 18, 1922, she was married to Melvin L. Gregerson in the Presbyterian parsonage in West Union by the Rev. E. J. Wykle. After their marriage they moved to a farm in Highland township near Volga. Two sons, Merle and Mervin were born to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Gregerson united with the fellowship of the Volga Presbyterian church Dec. 10, 1922. Mrs. Gregerson had always been an active member, helping in the Ladies Aid, of which organization she had served as president. She and her husband were ordained and served as deacons in their church. She served as township chairman in the women's extension service and was a member of the Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Elkader.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth. She leaves to mourn her death her husband and their two sons, Merle, his wife, Agnes, their two children, Gene and Joyce of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mervin, his wife, Lois, and their two children, Lyle and Karen who live on the home farm near Volga. Many relatives and a host of friends also mourn her death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Volga Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. John Reiners student pastor, officiated. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.

Casket bearers were: Arthur Yearous and Carroll Klingman, Elgin; Ray Benson, Marsene Gamm, Wayne White, and Glen Probert, Volga.
