Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Niehaus Hawkins, 75, were held at Emanuel Lutheran church in Strawberry Point on Saturday afternoon, May 12, with the Rev. S. J. Meyer officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Lena Pfranger was born September 14, 1880, at Arlington, Iowa, the daughter of George and Christine Eppler Pfranger. On September 14, 1898, she was married to Fred W. Niehaus, and they lived in the Strawberry Point area until his death on November 14, 1939. On September 30, 1952, she was married to William Hawkins at Strawberry Point. She died at Woodlawn convalescent home in Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on May 10, following a two month residence at the home. She was a member of the Lutheran church and her chief interests in life were her family and her flowers.
Survivors include her husband, William Hawkins, of Strawberry Point; a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Lavera) Zearling of Cedar Falls; three sons, Louis A. Niehaus of West Union, Raymond G. Niehaus and Bernard W. Niehaus both of Medford, Oregon; and a brother, Tony Pfranger of Salem, Oregon. There are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband and a daughter, Mrs. Theo. Schuchmann, as well as one brother and one sister.
